Introduced as part of OS X El Capitan, System Integrity Protection (SIP) was designed to provide a type of root-level shielding to the Mac similar to what the iPhone and iPad have benefited from for years. It should be enabled on any new Mac running El Cap, and certainly running the current macOS Sierra.
Here’s how you can disable system integrity protection on macOS. Note: SIP is an important feature and it’s there for your safety. It is understandable that you might need to disable it for a short period of time however, you should enable it again as soon as you can. It is not a good idea to permanently disable system integrity protection. SIP is a blockade on editing the /System, /sbin, and /usr directories (with the exception of the /usr/local subdirectory). System Integrity Protection is a security technology in OS X El Capitan that’s designed to help prevent potentially malicious software from modifying protected files and folders on your Mac.
Some new owners, however, have booted up their new machines. My guess is Apple is already hard at work on a fix, but in the meantime, here's how to turn it back on yourself! How to check if System Integrity Protection is enabled on your MacBefore turning SIP on, the first thing you need to do is make sure it isn't on already. Launch Terminal on your Mac. Type in 'csrutil status' (or copy and paste it in from here).If SIP is ON, you'll get this message in response: 'System Integrity Protection status: enabled.'

If you see that, you should absolutely turn it back on, so keep reading!. Click on the (Apple Logo) at the far left of your Mac's Menubar. Click on Restart.
Hold down CMD + R during reboot to enter Recovery Mode. Click on the Utilities Menu.

What Is System Integrity Protection Mac
Before you start saying that it's not possible, hear me out first. I'm on a mid-2010 MacBook Pro (15'), and I'm trying to disable rootless to turn the hybrid MBR into a protective one so I can run Windows 10 on it. However, when I boot into Recovery Mode, the 'Utilities' menu just isn't there. All the menus are replaced by a 'Language Chooser' that apparently does nothing. So far, the possible ways I've found on the internet are:1. Make a bootable USB (and disable SIP during installation?)I can make a bootable USB, but I'm not really sure where to disable rootless.2.
Disable rootless in a non-OS X OS.I'm not sure if this is true, but the person who suggested this said to use Ubuntu in its 'trial mode.' SIP protects macOS and is unrelated to anything other than it.Something else is going on with your Mac if you can't use macOS Recovery. From what you describe its Recovery Partition has become corrupted, and if I had to guess how that occurred it was probably a result in attempting to create a dual boot system. There is nothing wrong with that, but I don't know how you went about it.If all you want to do is to run Windows, the proper way is to use Boot Camp:.

If you want to create additional boot partitions such as for Ubuntu Linux I'll need more information. That would have done nothing to help disable SIP though.The only way to fix a corrupted Recovery Partition is to boot Internet Recovery:. That creates a new Recovery Partition that can subsequently be updated to contain any superseding operating system you purchase.I think you're going off in the weeds with SIP until you get that fixed.Obviously, back up your Mac before doing anything else. When you boot Internet Recovery you are asked to choose a language.
It does nothing other than wait for the user to choose the language used for the remainder of the installation. Describe these menus you are seeing, and where you are seeing them.You want to disable SIP, so do that in Single User mode. And I still don't understand what Ubuntu has to do with anything.
Perhaps you should start at the beginning: what is it you want to do? When I'm booting Internet Recovery, I'm not asked to do anything. It's literally the same as the regular recovery mode.I see the 4 'OS X Utilities' in the middle of the menu. They are 'Install OS X,' 'Find Help Online,' 'Restore from Time Machine,' and 'Disk Utility.' When I go up to the top, I see the Apple button (when I click it just says 'Shut Down,' or 'Restart,' and something I can't remember) and I see Language Chooser right next to that.

When I try to install it, I get an error that says 'Disk could not be found. Insert your Windows disk.' I couldn't really find an answer online, so I tried to not use Boot Camp. I found this: It was all good until I got to the gdisk part. I tried booting Windows, and it says something like the hard drive wasn't compatible. I then followed the link in the blog and found out I needed to disable GIP.
